My name is Matias Gonzalez. I was born and raised in New York City, where my passion for soccer started early. My parents are from Uruguay and Peru which has shaped my style of playing to this day. Growing up, I trained and competed at a high level, eventually earning a spot with the New York Red Bulls youth system, which played a major role in shaping my development, discipline, and competitive mindset.

My hard work on the field led to multiple Division 1 college offers, and I was set on continuing my soccer journey at the highest collegiate level. But after tearing my ACL, my path took an unexpected turn. It was a difficult setback, but it pushed me to rebuild stronger, physically and mentally.

I chose to continue my education and athletic career at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU), where I’ve focused on growth, resilience, and staying involved in the game I love. Today, I’m proud to be playing for the Tampa Bay Rowdies Developmental Team, continuing to compete, improve, and chase the next level of my soccer career.
